A tyre is not simply the sum of its parts. Instead it is the intelligent and studied integration of multiple individual components, materials and construction methods.
No single specification determines tyre quality.
COMPOUND
The science of rubber compounding in tyres borders on alchemy, and formulas are guarded with fierce secrecy. The harsh reality, however, is that MOST tyre brands do not develop their own compounds, and have little control over the final ingredients of their compounds. The compounds here are our own, we developed them, and they can ONLY be found in Goodyear bicycle tyres.
We formulate road compounds to achieve high levels of grip, deliver excellent rolling efficiency, with longlasting durability. They are defined as Dynamic:Pace 70, Dynamic:H/T and Dynamic:Silica4.
Goodyear mountain tyres focus on traction, low rolling resistance, and multi-density compounds to afford traction across a broad range of varying conditions. Mountain compounds are defined as Dynamic:Pace60, Dynamic:A/T, Dynamic:R/T, and Dynamic:RS/T.
TREAD
Tread design is a key component of a tyre’s ability to perform; it is the tread that determines how the carefully formulated compound of a yire is put to use. At one end of the spectrum, Eagle road tyres feature smooth tread in order to maximise contact between their grippy, advanced Silica compound and paved surfaces. Transit Tour and Transit Speed tyres are grooved and siped to provide superior wet traction, and County and Connector models feature tread designed to provide comfort and traction across a wide range of paved and gravel surfaces.
At the complete opposite end of that spectrum, Newton and Newton-ST tyres utilise deep knobs with reinforced support and aggressive siping to find grip in loose dirt, with Electronic Discharge Molding enhancing mud-shedding abilities.
CASING/PROTECTION
Goodyear tyres are available in two constructions – Premium and Ultimate – and a variety of use specific armours all tailored to provide optimal protection and deliver superior ride quality. With our off-road tyres, standard casings are 1-ply construction, Enduro casings are a tougher 1.5-ply, and DH casings are an abuse-ready 2-ply.

CASING/PROTECTION
Tyre protection varies from tyre to tyre, depending on intended use. We identify our bead-to-bead protection as F:Armor, R:Armor, M:Armor, and C:Armor. Center-of-casing protection is F:Shield, R:Shield, M:Shield, and K:Shield, and center underlayment is defined as S1:Shell, S3:Shell, and S5:Shell. Sidewall protection is F:Wall, R:Wall, M:Wall, A:Wall, and C:Wall. F-designations consist of Nylon material, R- designations use a lightweight Nylon, M- designations employ a heavier-duty,
crosshatched Nylon fabric. S- designations indicate puncture protection rubber reinforced with Kevlar fiber.
The end-result translation of this alphabet soup is that we have spent considerable time designing and implementing a thorough, use-specific, tyre protection system that lives up to the Goodyear reputation for performance, quality and assurance.
