What can I see?

Heading south from Dent station down the very steep coal road into Cowgill you can then ride south east along the lovely Dentdale, seeing Artengill Viaduct and The Sportsman Inn before climbing steeply to Newby Head.

A great road descent to Ribblehead and immediately obvious is the impressive 24 arch Ribblehead Viaduct. You can even ride right up to it. You can also see all of Yorkshire's 3 Peaks. Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-ghent.

Heading south to Selside along the B6479 there are views over to Pen-y-ghent and if you're lucky you might see a steam train heading up the railway. At the tiny hamlet of Selside you can continue down the road to Horton in Ribblesdale where you can find pubs and cafes. If you're feeling more adventurous you can head off-road SW over the bridleway via Sulber and Crummackdale to the lovely village of Austwick. The pub on the village green is lovely on a hot sunny day (or a great refuge on a wet one. It is Yorkshire after all)

From Horton we head down the road to Helwith Bridge where we turn off the B6479 by the Helwith Bridge Inn and impressive Dry Rigg quarry and head down a quiet back back road to Little Stainforth where you can find a cafe and Stainforth Foss. (You might see some locals jumping in during the summer months)

If you headed over the bridleway to Austwick you can rejoin the route at Helwith Bridge via a short blast along the road east out of Austwick.

From Little Stainforth simply head south back into Settle.

How far is it?

Cycling the most direct route from Dent to Settle along the road is around 20 miles. Though if you want to do some exploring it may be a little further. Ribblehead is also 150 meters higher above sea level than Settle, so technically it's all downhill from there though the route is fairly undulating.
